Secretary-General

Greetings Delegates,

With this being its 6th Edition, Scottish Model United Nations already holds a reputation of being a great platform for all MUNners, old and new, to showcase their skills at debating, persuading and socializing. Let your speeches evoke logic instead of sensationalism and do not be afraid to speak out. I'm really excited to see the arguments you raise, the resolutions you make and the points you discuss. With that said I promise, SMUN 2018 will be as eventful and edgy as possible and boy that's going to be lots of fun.

After 16 of both years and muns in my life I have learnt that three things in life are the most important: - 1)Having fun, 2) forming relationships that mean something to you and 3) making a difference. SMUN 2018 is the perfect opportunity for you to do all. So, delegates as you get ready to take up the positions as representatives of your countries remember to be confident and have fun irrespective of what you're doing. To conclude, always remember to never take yourself too seriously. Life is a lot happier with a little bit of joking around. That doesn't mean you don't take responsibility seriously though. It means you make the most out of every opportunity with a good attitude.

Hey there, delegates!

As your charge d’affaires for Scottish Model UN 2018 I encourage you to raise your placards high, speak confidently (only when asked to) and completely indulge yourself in a healthy debate based on the agenda’s our Executive Board brings to you. Back up your arguments with thorough research. Consider this conference as an opportunity to enhance your leadership skills, become acquainted with global issues and at the same time look spectacular in formal attire’s.

I advise you not to cause any hindrance to our Organizing Committee or else there will be an embarrassing reference to your behaviour in the newsletter.

All the best!

Charge D'Affaires

Dear Delegates,
I persuade you to raise your placard high to refute ones statement, to ask your chairs doubts regarding parliamentary procedures, to enthrall your fellow committee members with inspiring speeches and to bang the tables as hard as you can to applaud a notable statement, but most of all I encourage you to immerse yourself and represent your country in all its glory. According to me there are no small countries, just small minds. The SMUN '18 gives you the perfect opportunity to show how each and every country uses its voice and power for the betterment of the world.

After spending a majority of my time trying to make the better argument regardless of what the topic is I have realised one thing as a person, what matters more than your intelligence is your integrity. It is what you should hold at your core as a delegate. Never allow anyone to phase you and that is exactly what a Model UN teaches you. I invite you all to test your abilities not only as a delegate but also as a human.

Ever since I went for my first MUN around 5 years ago, if there's one thing I've learnt since then, it's that regardless of the outcome, the debate is pointless if you don't enjoy it. Even now after 14 MUN conferences,I believe that if you completely immerse yourself into the debate, you are bound to not only perform your best, but also have a lot of fun while doing it.
