A MUN is platform for expression, debate and world issues. Hello potential delegates as your Moderator of the UNSC, the most important wing of the UN, I would like to welcome you all to the Security Council. The UNSC has always been the chief decision making body of the UN and this year at SMUN we plan to tackle various issues ranging from space to terrorism to issues rarely spoken about. The UNSC is one of two committees at SMUN 18 offering double delegation allowing delegates to be part of a two man team. I was introduced to MUNing 2 years ago at SMUN 16 and this SMUN might be my last and I have learned many things from these two years and hope we inspire you.

GA-1 DISEC

GA-2 ECOFIN

Deputy President
Ishaan Pethe
The Disarmament and International Security Committee issues resolutions, thus focusing on the establishment of disarmament and security on a global scale.
At the SMUN 18 conference, the Presidents of the committee promise to make the committee fun, fast-paced and most importantly knowledgeable and enriching. Both the agendas will help the first time MUNners understand the objectives of the DISEC and will also give experienced MUNners the challenge they are looking for.

President
Krish Sarawgi
Dear Delegates,
If there’s one thing that my experience with ModelUN has taught me, is that experience doesn’t always win. To simplify that, it doesn’t matter how experienced you are. Whether this is your first MUN or your 10th, it is always the amount of hard work you put in before and during the conference that will help you win. At SMUN 18, my team and I will try our level best to make DISEC and engaging and more importantly, a fun committee!

At my first MUN I was a journalist and apart from a few flare ups between the moderator and literally any other delegate, I remember committee being mind-numbingly boring. I sat in that little corner in the Gamaliel hall next to the stage as the same 2 delegate's spoke over and over and as the chairs tried their hardest to get the others more involved. I didn't want to be that kind of delegate. The kind who awkwardly waited till he was forced to speak and then made an awful speech. That's also why I urge you, the delegates of the DISEC to speak up as much as you can. Be confident, lose your inhibitions and raise your placard as often as you can. If not for yourself, do it for the journalists. As a final tip for the numerous speeches I'm sure you'll be making, I'll say what a wise man once said to me. Speak to express. Not to impress.

GA-3 SOCHUM

Deputy President
Dhruv Arya
Delegates, as the Deputy President of SOCHUM, I will try not to make any bad puns, as this may be considered as ‘bach(pun)na’. On a more serious note, as a delegate, you shouldn’t shy away from giving your viewpoint and speak not to impress anyone, but to express yourself. To find a solution, I would ask you to make a fist and remove only your index and middle finger out…What do you see? I see the solution to almost all problems faced by the world, a V (We). Thus, achieving (UN)i(tea). If we take the UN as a platform to find solutions, there is no stopping us.

President
Enaksh Srivastava
SMUN 16 was the first MUN I took part in, and I just couldn't get enough once I first overcame my nervousness and just began to say what was on my mind. This is my third time being in the EB and I promise to be helpful and extremely encouraging to every single one of you that enter my committee. I love debating and speaking and MUNning and I hope to instill some of that in all of you. I want to see some great debate and fearless speeches, but most importantly, I just want to see everyone overcome their nervousness and be confident, because I believe that that's the only step required to be a great MUNner. Work hard and make me proud.

SOCHUM is a committee with one of the most invigorating agendas that SMUN18 has to offer. My experience as a delegate began in this very committee in SMUN 2016 and 11 MUNs later I am eager to meet well-researched delegates, hear compelling arguments and I hope to see ample involvement. This committee has the potential for a high level of debate which only you, the delegate of SOCHUM, can achieve. So, research thoroughly, put passion in your arguments, know your allies, speak with conviction, and you’re sure to make your presence felt in committee.
Surprise me.

Indian Parliament

Deputy President
Lakshya Dugar
Unquestioned answers are far more dangerous than unanswered questions.
Dear delegates, welcome to the committee that will transcend all magnitudes of enjoyment and learning. With your thorough research and unshakable confidence handy, this MUN will be fun. I'm fat, funny, fabulous and usually flabbergasted at the same time.
PS - Unfortunately, throwing chairs or slippers will not be permitted in the Parliament.

President
Dikshant Verma
“ There is no failure except in no longer trying.”
- Elbert Hubbard
Hello Delegates, my name is Dikshant Verma and I will be your President, of the Indian Parliament, for SMUN 18.
I am an Ex- Scottishite and I am currently pursuing Engineering. I love listening to music, especially to Linkin Park and The Oasis, I love playing football and I’m a big Dragon Ball Z fan.
I have been MUNing since I was 12 years old and have a MUN experience of over 15 MUNs, having chaired two and having organized one.
Delegates, experienced or not, you would be representing a cause, voices of many people and principles you believe in. The problems you would be challenged to solve won’t be shake-offs or simplistic. They would require unity, diplomacy and of course, constant impulse from you. The Agendas are imperative to the people of the country and need to be dealt with great urgency and responsibility. The decisions you arrive at in the committee, the solutions you design, will affect the entire nation and each of the 1.32 Billion people living in it. Feel the responsibility and the weight of your job but at the same time, don’t let anything hold you back and don’t cave in to pressure. Speak your mind, be fearless and have no regrets.
I, along with the Deputy President of the Committee, would be there to support and guide you through the proceedings. We, in our capacity would be there for the entire committee. In return, we expect a verbally active committee, fearless delegates and resonating speeches.
“If you can speak, you can influence. If you can influence, you can change lives”
Best of Luck Delegates.
